Newton Program Guide 2010-2011
An addendum to this guide with changes and additions for 2011-2012 is being prepared.
The program guide describes all special education programs and services in Newton Public Schools. The philosophy underlying special education services in Newton is neighborhood inclusion, meeting each child’s needs in the classroom with their peers. When this model does not meet a student’s educational and emotional needs, Newton has a number of programs available as described in the program guide.
Neighborhood Co-Taught Classes – a new model piloted in the 2010-2011 school year and expanded for the 2011-2012 school year.
Stabilization Programs – K-12 – technically not a special education program, but a resource for all children who are in crisis or urgent need of different types of supports and evaluation.
